AFC Bournemouth is the latest English Premiership football club to install a CryoAction whole body cryotherapy chamber in their training centre.
The 2-3 person chamber has been installed within the centre and has been incorporated into the club’s extensive recovery protocols. The AFC Bournemouth players were introduced to the treatments following a trip last season to Dubai and recognised the benefits that having a permanent unit could bring to the club.
The installation of this unit took place in the close season and was up and running in time for pre-season training. The players now undertake treatments of 2-3 minutes with temperatures inside the chamber reaching as low as -150°C.
The aim of the treatment is to enable the players to recover from fatigue far quicker than other methods, reduce the impact of soft tissue injuries and to improve the health and well being of the players.
AFC Bournemouth physiotherapist, Steve Hand and team doctor, Craig Roberts as well as other members of the backroom team have received full training in use of the chamber by CryoAction staff and now deliver a programme of treatments, post training and after matches.
Commenting on the use of the chamber, Craig Roberts said,” We are very happy with how it is working and have had tremendous buy in from the players.” For CryoAction, Ian Saunders added, ” We are delighted to welcome AFC Bournemouth as a CryoAction client and will be working with the team to ensure that they continue to get maximum competitive advantage from their investment in a CryoAction cryotherapy chamber.”
